Description

SBB RABDe 500 “ICN (InterCity Neigezug): Switzerland’s Flagship Tilting High-speed Train

The SBB RABDe 500 “ICN (InterCity Neigezug)” is Switzerland’s flagship tilting high-speed train, engineered for fast and comfortable travel across the country’s curving intercity mainlines. Developed by a consortium led by Bombardier Transportation, alongside Alstom and SIG, the ICN combines advanced tilting technology with precision Swiss design.

Entering service in the early 2000s, the ICN enables higher speeds through curves by actively tilting its car bodies, significantly reducing journey times while maintaining exceptional passenger comfort. With a top speed of 200 km/h, these trains operate on key InterCity routes linking major cities such as Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lausanne.

With its distinctive streamlined profile and innovative design, the ICN remains a vital part of SBB’s long-distance fleet—offering a unique blend of speed, efficiency and Swiss precision on some of Europe’s most scenic routes.
